Staten Island

I am back in my hometown of Staten Island for the holiday season. No place is stranger or more remarkable. Its enthusiasm for family life is unparalleled and its love for hair gel is unmatched.

I only really keep in contact with two people from home, Steve and Nick.

Steve is the most talented writer I have ever met. Simply put, he sees the world in a different way and his writing reflects his unique beat on life. ( If Steve reads this, I guarantee I will be met with an email full of editing suggestions.)

Nick is an artist, with the exotic Italian girlfriend and hippy pony tail to boot. He sees the world with an interesting and alternating blend of cynicism and optimism.

Both bring something different to my life.

We do not gab, email or IM. I may call after a long night in the bars but our communication only really picks up when I touch down in the borough New York forgot. I spent today with both and find myself laughing to myself at their individual nuances. They teach me to love my path because it is so different from theirs. The Island can be a prison or it could be a muse depending on your view.

I hope I always see the world, including the Stizzle, through rose colored glasses.
